OFL Long Beach Day 4

October 21, 2017 by RMPR Blogger

Howdy Y’all!

It’s been a great few days here at the ranch. The students are loving the mountains. In the past few days, they went hiking, learned about our horses, made candles, had an ice cream social, and square danced. It’s been a lot of fun for sure.

Morning Hike with some of the students!

So, Long Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye!

October 13, 2017 by RMPR Blogger

Today was the last day on the ranch and parting is bitter sweet. With a 6AM wake up call we got straight to work cleaning the ranch and our rooms for the next group.

This group connected with each other so well it was amazing to see friendships form and tears of happiness shed. There were some truly amazing young adults in this group from Santa Clarita who were memorable in more ways than one. Beautiful music filled the ranch and many lasting memories made. We will miss the students and we hope they gained as much as they could from visiting the ranch. The lessons we learned from these experiences will carry for a lifetime; the laughter the smiles the jokes and the conversations are all what make the Rocky Mountain Pathways Ranch a magical place. Safe travels friends! Stay beautiful, stay kind, stay adventurous!

College, Ghosts, and Snow

October 12, 2017 by RMPR Blogger

These past few days have been flying by at high speed as we wrap up our final days with the Santa Clarita crew here in the Rockies.

We started the week off right with a tour at one of our local colleges, University of Northern Colorado (UNC). Students got a little taste of college life seeing the student recreational center, a residence hall, and of course the college cafeteria. An all you can eat buffet was just what the students needed to put them in a good mood.

Meanwhile, at the ranch, the snowfall was just beginning to taper and the sun peaking out. When the students returned from college we made snow angels and snow men; we laughed and played and soaked up this beautiful memory to last a lifetime. This was the first time many students had seen snow and the excitement was unprecedented.

The next morning we made our way to the historic Stanley Hotel for a spooktacular haunted tour. On the tour we learned about the origins of the Stanley and of course all about how inspired Stephen King’s, The Shining. Students were stoked to take pictures in front of the Room 217, considered a hotbed of paranormal activity. Following the Stanley tour, we had a very nice lunch on the lake park with a perfect view of the surrounding Estes mountains.

We finished the evening with our poetry slam and I must say this slam poetry session was particularly lively. It takes a lot of courage to perform a poem in front of people but everyone got up on stage and gave it there best and it was truly amazing! Laughter, singing, and heartfelt stories filled the room that evening and it brought the students closer to their peers.

This past week has been quite unique and I’m sure that these next few days will be even better as this session comes to a close. We will miss everyone who joined us this session and we are looking forward to ending the week with a bang! Here are some more cool pictures from the last few days!

Fun Filled Weekend!

October 8, 2017 by RMPR Blogger

Happy Sunday everyone!

This weekend was filled with laughter, camp fire s’mores, dancing, games, and wilderness exploration. We started the weekend off right with a Friday night square dancing lesson that preceded a super fun dance party. Saturday we had our Pioneer Olympics where students competed in a variety of games and competitions with their team including charades. a dance off, and a three legged race. For diner we made our own pizzas which all looked super delicious and then we ended the evening with s’mores, a fire, and a little star gazing. The night sky was clear and spectacular!

Today was hike day and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect! Clear skies, sun beaming through the trees, and a 60 degree breeze keeping us cool as we walked through Roosevelt National Forest. There were two options for the students to choose; an intense hike or a moderate hike. So after a nice morning and some good ole carbohydrate rich oats and fruit we set off on our hikes with backpacks full, water in hand, and an adventurous attitude.

Students on the intense hike traversed across Aspen groves, crossed a stream, explored a cave, and soaked up the views at overlook points. We were so impressed with all of the hikers today and we are so proud of how resilient everyone was. Today was sunshiny and clear but tomorrow we will put the students to work shoveling snow. I speak for all of the staff here at the ranch when I say that we are all super excited to spend the next five days with this great group of kids.
