OFL Long Beach – Day 5

February 8, 2016 by RMPR Blogger

Hello from Colorado,

After a night of surprises students woke up refreshed and ready to go for the day. After breakfast staff wanted to loosen students up, so they had all students on the dance floor. This helped open up students and let them have fun!

The day was full of surprises for the students, which they can tell you when they get home =) As squads (teams), students worked together to complete takes and come together as a group.

OFL Long Beach – Day 4

February 8, 2016 by RMPR Blogger

IMG_6122Greetings once again from beautiful Allenspark, Colorado!

The students have been building upon the whole experience each day and are digging deeper into self understanding and the building of their character development.

From an assigned poetry project,

IMG_6119

to a beautiful snow hike (learning how powerful they are even in the cold),

IMG_6128

to becoming more introspective (which for young adults, time with out “technology” and others can be more difficult than enduring the cold),

20160205_111740

and enjoying an example of nature’s “scratch and sniff”, seeing what a Ponderosa Pine really smells like. “FRESH”!

The chaperones, Ms. Kim and Mr. Tony send their greetings! (Though Mr. Tony doesn’t understand how Ms. Kim suddenly seems taller than him)

Everyone is remaining in high expectation for further surprises that the trip will bring.

To all the OFL Scholars send their greetings!

OFL Long Beach – Day 3

February 5, 2016 by RMPR Blogger

Hello again, it’s another beautiful day here in Allenspark, Colorado. The ranch is a majestic sight with trees, snow and sunshine!

sunshine

Yesterday students learned about the breed of the horses on the ranch, gender and age. Here is River; she is the biggest horse on the ranch, she is not only beautiful, but she is kind and gentle.

Today students got more in-depth with the parts of horses and how to saddle a horse.

Students even got to shovel the snow by the horses’ pens. Lucky!!!!

Here at the ranch we love to be positive and work together. Here is our words of wisdom wall.

words of wisdom

Students can write done a quote, saying or just something from the heart, that will inspire their peers. Students learned more about character and got into positive conversations about gratitude. This was an amazing experience for all students and staff, it helped everyone realize how lucky we are to have people in our lives that love and support us.

Hello again from the Rocky Mountain Pathways Ranch!

So, blogging again from the Pathways Ranch and the amazing staff. They have been truly amazing!

It’s been a winter wonderland.

The students have been enjoying the experiences and getting to learn about horses.

The highlight for many a student was getting to work with the horse Mystic in the coral.
Throughout the day, the students have had a great time being super active and have learned about life, themselves and maintaining a positive attitude. They have jumped in with both feet for all the games that will help them develop their “character”.

OFL Long Beach – Day 1

February 3, 2016 by RMPR Blogger

Welcome and hello from the Rocky Mountain Pathways Ranch!

So far the journey has been a great experience and the students have been amazing! 20160202_104939

From the time we left Long Beach to our arrival, they have been real troopers! Such an amazing spirit, even with the sickness all of us are enduring getting acclimated to the elevation and this new experience. Ms. Kim and Mr. Tony are super proud of their attitudes and how they have jumped in so willingly.

Our first night was enjoyable getting to meet new people and the staff who have taken great care of us.
20160202_205610

The first night was a rough one with the high altitude, new beds to sleep in…and missing their “Mommies” and “Daddies”. (While they are missing you all, they are super thankful for letting them partake in this privilege)

But the next morning, the “awesome” breakfast and the views have put everyone into a positive spirit and ready to continue the journey.
IMG_3091

So, off to our next activities, and this growing experience!

The only thing left to say…”let the games begin”!

Day 6 – Monday

January 26, 2016 by admin

Weekday schedule began again today with work projects turning into hours for community service for our marvelous students. That requirement for graduation could not be met in an easier or more fun manner!

Doing some homework. It’s hard to see in the photos, but right out the window are beautiful pine covered mountains where weather frequently blows over from the other side. We love watching snow move in closer and closer until it is snowing all around us.

Bind folded team building/leadership activities are always fun!

Each group had a turn to act out different leadership styles! It was an afternoon full of laughter. We have some great actors and actresses in our students. The last activity before supper helped kick-start conversations on the importance of values for our students!

Day 3 on the Ranch

January 25, 2016 by admin

DSCN5703

Day three was an amazing day in the Rockies! We started out the day with a fresh breath of air before breakfast. The picture is of students attempting to find their group while closing their eyes by making an assigned animal noise. It was hilarious!

DSCN5723

DSCN5737

Mid-morning, the students went on a beautiful hike in nature. Smelling the Ponderosa Pine was fun since it actually smells rather like vanilla! The temperature was a balmy 40 degrees Fahrenheit meaning that the snow was just right for a snowball fight! As we continued hiking, the students noticed deer, horse, and mice tracks in the snow. In a beautiful meadow, we took a couple moments to spread out and have personal reflection/meditation time. Wind in the trees sounding like the ocean, sparkling snow, quietness, stillness, golden bits of grass poking through, small red rocks, and memories of home were all some of the things the students said that they had thought about and noticed during this peaceful activity.

DSCN5743

The last activity of the day before supper were debates! The students had an hour to read information about their given topic, assign roles, prepare their statements, and then debate another team. Many of the students were very passionate about their topic and did very well!
